Our Story
Our origin story begins in 1943, when ASCD was created to bring forward-thinking educators together to share ideas and develop strategies to break down barriers to effective and engaging learning for all students. It has stuck to that mission throughout its history, fostering greater collaboration across educator positions and becoming well-known for its conferences, its influential publications on evidence-based instructional practices, its professional learning services and its pioneering work in whole child education. Through its community, ASCD has also been a powerful voice in efforts to ensure equitable access to effective learning experiences for all students.
