Safe & Purposeful Pledge
Schools deserve edtech that's safe — and actually supports learning.
Schools need to keep students safe and use edtech in purposeful ways that support teaching and learning. That's why ISTE and GreatSchools are partnering to launch the Safe and Purposeful EdTech School Pledge.
What Safe & Purposeful Schools Commit To
Schools taking the Safe & Purposeful EdTech Schools Pledge publicly commit to five practices that ensure technology is used responsibly and meaningfully with students.
A written, accessible policy governing how technology is selected and used with students — including age-appropriate language for student norms.
All educators complete or are actively enrolled in professional development on safe and purposeful use of technology in schools.
Technology procurement follows a vetting process aligned with Safe & Purposeful quality-of-evidence guidelines for student safety and effective learning.
Students are provided with meaningful Digital Citizenship activities that prepare them to navigate technology safely, responsibly, and ethically.
Families are meaningfully informed and engaged around how technology is used for learning in their school — not just notified after the fact.
Earn Your Badge
Schools and districts that take the pledge receive the Safe & Purposeful Committed badge to display publicly — giving families a clear signal that their school is committed to responsible edtech.
